NBBMI Successfully Conducts International Seminar with the Council of Bureaux

The National Bureau of Bulgarian Motor Insurers (NBBMI) successfully held a two-day international seminar on 7–8 April 2026 in Sofia, bringing together high-level representatives from the Council of Bureaux (CoB), members of the Management Board of the National Bureau of Bulgarian Motor Insurers (NBBMI), representatives of the Bulgarian insurance market, and high-level institutional participants.

The seminar featured distinguished guest speakers from the Council of Bureaux:

• Ms Greet Floré – Managing Director;
• Mr Luk De Baere – Legal Managing Director;
• Mr Marc Henry – Reinsurance Advisor.

The event was attended by professionals from Bulgarian insurance companies, all members of NBBMI, actively engaged in the Green Card system, the administration of reinsurance contracts, and cross-border claims handling.

Among the official guests were Mr Plamen Danailov, Deputy Chair of the Financial Supervision Commission and Head of the Insurance Supervision Division, and Mr Nikolay Stanchev, Chairman of the Management Board of the Association of Bulgarian Insurers (Асоциация на българските застрахователи), further emphasizing the institutional importance of the event.

Key topics discussed included:

• Reinsurance as a risk mitigation tool under Solvency II;
• The Green Card system and EU Motor Insurance Directives;
• Recent regulatory developments and their practical implications;
• Cross-border claims handling and market-specific challenges.

The sessions combined expert presentations, practical insights, and interactive discussions, providing a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and professional development.

The seminar reaffirmed the importance of close cooperation between NBBMI, the Council of Bureaux, the Bulgarian insurance community, and regulatory authorities in ensuring the effective functioning of the Green Card system.
